Founding
The James H. Boone Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was
established by contributions from the public to recognize
and honor the outstanding accomplishments of Mr. James H.
Boone, a successful Murray businessman and Community
Leader. The Murray Foundation for Excellence and the
Boone Family do hereby establish these guidelines for the
James H. Boone Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Purpose
James H. Boone Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund is
established by the Boone family to provide long term
funding for the James H. Boone Sr. Memorial
Scholarship. The scholarship shall be awarded to a
Murray High School senior who has been active in sports
with a preference for football. For the full criteria
see the application form.
There is no restriction on the college that the student
may attend.
Selection process
The recipients shall be selected annually by the Boone
Scholarship Committee comprised of the principal,
counselor and football coach of Murray High School, up to
three (3) members of the Boone Family and a
representative of the MISD Foundation for Excellence.
Management and amount
The MISD Foundation for Excellence shall administer the
Fund, seek additional contributions from the public, and
invest all funds in a safe and prudent manner. At no
time shall the principal of the fund (including
additional contributions) be used for any purpose other
than investment. The James H. Boone Sr. Memorial
Scholarship shall initially be funded by the Boone
Family. No expenditures will be made from this fund so
long as the Scholarship is funded by other means. When
that external funding of the scholarship ends the
procedure shall be that the amount of the award shall be
not more than 80% of the average return generated by the
account in the five years preceding the award, rounded
down to the nearest $100.
